There’ll be another short-priced favourite with SPECIAL STARS and he clearly is the runner to beat. While he sticks to the 1,000m, he is trying the straight course for the first time and that could be the little query, although he seems to know his trade pretty well having won two from four. How short is too short though? Well I’m not keen to take less than $3.00 about him to win. There could be some value around CALIFORNIA GUNGHO who was disadvantaged by a wide gate last time at Happy Valley. He hit the line very well indeed and his only run over the course and distance was behind Speedy King who has obvious claims. SPEEDY KING has only had two starts over the course and distance for a win and a second with each of those rating quite nicely, so from a high draw he can run well. Of the rest, SEVEN HEAVENS drops down in trip but is backing-up relatively quickly which might help his cause. He’s run well at times at Happy Valley and he looks like he can win a Class 3 race. At the prices California Gungho is worth an each way ticket.
