RIGHT CHOICE is the best of the day for me. He was excellent when dashing off a slow tempo (22.08-best 400m of the day) when he last competed and this time around there should be a more genuine speed that should suit him better. Right Choice is progressive, maps nicely and has more upside than most in this contest. The main threat I see should come from GALLANT RETURN who also put in some sizzling sectionals when he stormed home from an impossible position at Happy Valley last time. Matthew Poon was quizzed over the ride that night and suffices to say Joao Moreira has replaced him for today’s assignment. Gallant Return looks a big price early and for this reason he too is a ‘must back’. This will be Douglas Whyte’s last ride, so his mount UNCLE STEVE looks destined to come up shorter than he should due to the public thinking he will win, and whilst the horse has gone nicely-enough in his trials, he will be massively under the odds and I doubt he will figure from barrier 14. HOME RUN is racing well and a genuinely run race will aid his chances. BOMBAY BLITZ is another that can run well even though he’s had an interrupted year, his best would make him competitive. So I’m not backing a Whyte fairytale here, rather I’m strong on both Right Choice and Gallant Return to run best.
