summary

There is not much pace at all on paper so that makes this event a little tricky in many respects. FAMILY LEADER ran well behind Ka Ying Brilliance and backs up from the weekend following that third placing. He boxed on well over 1,400m and left the impression that he will appreciate the step up in trip. Zac Purton and Caspar Fownes have run the frame in 29/65 times this term and can improve on that stat in this event. The lack of pace might play in to the hands of RED ELYSEES. He has been holding his form well this season and comes through a decent form reference last time (Race 319). A repeat of that performance can have him right in contention here. One of the more interesting runners is HAPPY HOUR. This son of Mastercraftsman is third-up this season and steps up in distance to 1,800m, which should be suitable. He closed with a race-best final-200m (11.87) over the shorter distance of 1400m at his last start and he should be ready to perform today. LE PANACHE is the best of the rest, but he also might be close to his mark. Family Leader though looks like a reasonable enough outlay to begin the Lunar New Year!

speed

SPARKLING SWORD can lead the opening event from HAPPY HOUR and I don’t anticipate that the overall tempo will faster than GOOD. RED ELYSEES and LE PANACHE can position close to those runners from their barrier draws.
