summary

There is a standout in this race, TORNADO TWIST. He has impressed me with his last two victories (from three career starts) and he looks an exciting prospect. He rates well clear of his rivals based on his last win and although he carries 5kg more, he remains in the same grade and will be hard to beat. How short will he be though and what price will you have to take to back him is the significant question however? In early betting he looks too short. The main quinella option and potentially a play to roll the favourite if there’s bad luck or he doesn’t bring his best is WALDORF. He has been frustrating for those who have supported him recently, but he’s been closing well at Happy Valley and has had genuine excuses in defeat. Waldorf rates well enough and might well go out over the odds. LUCKY HERO returned with an issue last time, but hit the line quite well and going in to this event third up I expect him to run well. DIAMOND RHYME is a major contender if he can find his form behind Mr So And So, but what happened last time when he showed little dash late is unexplained. He’s one to take on trust and Purton has stuck with him. Prices dictate me recommending small outlays on Waldorf and Diamond Rhyme, although if you can shop at better than $2.40 for Tornado Twist then he is a “back”.

speed

The pace should be genuine here and SPEED VISION can set things up in front. PLAY TO WIN can settle behind it with MIGHT MAVERICK mustering on the rail. THE ABRAXAS has shown speed when in Australia so could sit in the first few in the running.
