RACE 10

11 ENRICHMENT (rp – $2.20)

WIN (10 units)

ENRICHMENT presents as the best of the day in a race with only a couple of other serious chances. He had no luck last start and ran every bit as well as subsequent Classic Mile winner Furore. Moreira takes the ride and given the lack of speed on paper I expect that he’ll be able to take up a forward position and be very hard to beat.

Result: 2nd (-10 units)

RACE 5

10 HURRICANE HUNTER (rp – $3.20)

WIN (6.5 units)

10 with 6 & 9

QUINELLA (0.75 unit each, 1.5 units total)

HURRICANE HUNTER is another galloper that didn’t haven’t much luck last start that I believe can atone today. His overall form level to me is as good as the favourite Chairman Lo’s and Hurricane Hunter can get a suitable run from barrier 4. There is also a some value around FAMILY LEADER and FUN TIMES and the quinella option with them is also attractive.

Result: 2nd (-6.5 units)(-1.5 units) -> (-8 units)

RACE 9

13 DYNAMIC EAGLE (rp – $4.50)

WIN (4 units)

13 with 9 & 11

QUINELLA (0.5 unit each, 1 unit total)

Zac Purton unlocked DYNAMIC EAGLE’S potential last start when allowing the horse to settle and up in grade, with a light weight, the horse can win again today. Karis Teetan takes the ride and the horse draws the inside gate, which may cause a temptation to fire him up early to hold a position. That said, if DYNAMIC EAGLE were able to settle happily into his own rhythm then he’d sprint too well for these with clear running room in the straight.

Results: 5th DH (-4 units)(-1 unit) -> (-5 units)

RACE 8

2 VOLPINO (rp – $8.00)

WIN (1.5 units)

12 IMPERIAL CONCORDE (rp – $8.00)

WIN (1.5 units)

The eighth race presents a couple of runners that I believe are worth specking at odds given how this race will be run. There’s plenty of speed on paper that should mean VOLPINO and IMPERIAL CONCORDE will get their chance to work into the finish late in the race. The former is untried on the surface but I have liked how he’s worked in trials on the dirt and the distance suits him.

Result: 2nd (-1.5 units) + 1st @ $12.75 (+17.6 units) -> (16.1 units)

Overall result for 26 units strategy

-6.9 UNITS  (27% LOSS)

The heavy rain during the Sha Tin program really influenced the track, it was a huge advantage to be racing close to the rail and on the speed.

Have Fun Together ran an enormous race all things considered. He missed the kick by a couple of lengths before getting held up at the top of the straight, and made huge ground late and wide on the track.

Superich was brilliant and he looks a galloper with a lot of promise. He maintained a wide run and was powerful through the line. Noble Steed also did a good job to finish second, he’s got points in hand for the new season.

Shining On and Sunshine Holiday never really got into the race given how the track played.

So that brings to an end season 2017/18. Congratulations to John Size, Champion Trainer and Zac Purton, Champion Jockey for their achievements through out the term. It will certainly be a different landscape with Joao Moreira leaving to Japan and I look forward to unlocking plenty of winners factoring-in next season’s crop of jockeys!

Thanks for following Hutchi’s Honkers through out Hong Kong season 2017/18! It was satisfying to turn a seasonal profit, that was the goal and even though it wasn’t large, for bigger players who are able to earn rebates via their respective agencies, it’s been significant.

Cheers
