30 units Strategy

best outlays

RACE 8

5 SUPERICH (rp – $4.00)

WIN (4 units) & PLACE (8 units)

5 with 6

QUINELLA (1.5 units)

5 with 7

QUINELLA (1 unit)

5 with 11

QUINELLA (0.5 unit)

The Hong Kong Classic Mile delivers a race where the favourite Dark Dream is too short by my assessment and I don’t think he’s entirely suited to dropping back in distance and jumping from a wide draw. SUPERICH is a horse that has been costly in some respects but one that continues to put good figures on the board. He’s a top bet and worth playing each way. Runners like MR SO AND SO, KA YING STAR and CHARITY GO are others at decent prices that I’ll include in quinellas with Superich.

Results: 7th (-4 units)(-8 units) + (-1.5 units) + (-1 unit) + (-0.5 unit) -> (-15 units)

NEXT BEST OUTLAYS

RACE 7

2 EXULTANT (rp – $3.50)

WIN (4.5 units)

I believe the shape of this race will suit EXULTANT and he can pick up the pieces given the potential of Time Warp and Glorious Forever cutting at each other up front. He doesn’t have to settle too far back even though he’s dropping in distance following his HK Vase win in December.

Result: 1st @ $3.30 best corporate (+11.35 units)

RACE 4

2 DIAMOND LEGEND (rp – $3.60)

WIN (3.5 units)

1 DARING HEART (rp – $8.00)

WIN (1 unit)

Both DIAMOND LEGEND and DARING HEART that rate really highly in a race that isn’t of much quality overall. The former maps in a tricky spot and this might explain his early price, but he’s got enough of a sprint to overcome this. Conversely Daring Heart is drawn to get every opportunity to finish in the money and the drop into Class 5 for the first time is very noteworthy.

Result: 1st @ $10.00 best corporate (+31.5 units) + 2nd (-1 unit) -> (+30.5 units)

Next best each way outlay

RACE 10

6 GOOD BEAUTY (rp – $7.00)

WIN (2 units) & PLACE (4 units)

GOOD BEAUTY had a few excuses last time, but overall has a good enough form level to be competitive here. Hugh Bowman takes the ride, which is a massive plus, and from a handy barrier he should be afforded one of the runs of the race.

Result: 4th (-2 units) (-4 units) -> (-6 units)

Overall result for 30 units strategy

+20.85 UNITS  (69.5% PROFIT)

The heavy rain during the Sha Tin program really influenced the track, it was a huge advantage to be racing close to the rail and on the speed.

Have Fun Together ran an enormous race all things considered. He missed the kick by a couple of lengths before getting held up at the top of the straight, and made huge ground late and wide on the track.

Superich was brilliant and he looks a galloper with a lot of promise. He maintained a wide run and was powerful through the line. Noble Steed also did a good job to finish second, he’s got points in hand for the new season.

Shining On and Sunshine Holiday never really got into the race given how the track played.

So that brings to an end season 2017/18. Congratulations to John Size, Champion Trainer and Zac Purton, Champion Jockey for their achievements through out the term. It will certainly be a different landscape with Joao Moreira leaving to Japan and I look forward to unlocking plenty of winners factoring-in next season’s crop of jockeys!

Thanks for following Hutchi’s Honkers through out Hong Kong season 2017/18! It was satisfying to turn a seasonal profit, that was the goal and even though it wasn’t large, for bigger players who are able to earn rebates via their respective agencies, it’s been significant.

Cheers
