32 units Strategy

best outlay

RACE 10

11 WAIKUKU (rp – $2.30)

WIN (7 units)

9 MISSION TYCOON (rp – $5.00)

WIN (3 units)

I think WAIKUKU is a talented and progressive galloper that should map ideally to be given every chance to win again. I liked what I saw from his last start and with natural improvement he’s the best of the day. In the same race MISSION TYCOON looks to big in the market for us not to have something on him also. His last start effort rates well for this event.

Results: 1st @ $2.60 best corporate (+11.2 units) + 10th (-3 units) -> (+8.2 units)

NEXT BEST OUTLAYS

RACE 2

4 I DO (rp – $3.00)

WIN (5 units)

I DO has a ‘sticky’ draw to overcome, but he’s shown the necessary ability to do so. Zac Purton rides again, he’ll wear cheek-pieces and the step up to 1600m should suit this son of So You Think.

Result: 2nd (-5 units)

RACE 4

4 EPTIWINS (rp – $3.60)

WIN (4 units)

2 with 4

QUINELLA (1.5 units)

EPTIWINS really caught the eye when running into second placing last time over 1000m the extra furlong should be perfect for him and he’s drawn to receive an economical trip. FULL OF BEAUTY is the horse to beat and they form a natural and clear quinella, with Eptiwins the better ‘over’ at this stage to take to win the race.

Result: 6th (-4 units) + 1st (-1.5 units) -> (-5.5 units)

RACE 9

11 KASI FARASI (rp – $5.00)

WIN (3 units)

14 WITNESS HUNTER (rp – $6.00)

WIN (2.5 units)

Two horses make appeal to back in the ninth event, KASI FARASI and WITNESS HUNTER. Kasi Farasi draws the inside and will be suited by 1400m. Purton takes the mount and that signals the horse’s ‘readiness’. WITNESS HUNTER is a type that has more to offer and I like him in this grade with a light weight. He’s drawn poorly but has the ability to overcome that with some luck – he’s a super price.

Result: 1st @ $6.00 best corporate (+15 units) + 9th (-2.5 units) -> (+12.5 units)

best each way

RACE 5

2 D B PIN (rp – $3.60)

WIN (2 units) & PLACE (4 units)

Simply put, there is very little separating the top-three chances in the Centenary Sprint. Of those D B PIN makes a lot of appeal at his price. For that reason he’s a small each way play, with the units reflecting slight caution on my part that the way this event is run is not straightforward to ascertain.

Result: 7th (-2 units)(-4 units) -> (-6 units)

Overall result for 32 units strategy

+4.2 UNITS  (13% PROFIT)

The heavy rain during the Sha Tin program really influenced the track, it was a huge advantage to be racing close to the rail and on the speed.

Have Fun Together ran an enormous race all things considered. He missed the kick by a couple of lengths before getting held up at the top of the straight, and made huge ground late and wide on the track.

Superich was brilliant and he looks a galloper with a lot of promise. He maintained a wide run and was powerful through the line. Noble Steed also did a good job to finish second, he’s got points in hand for the new season.

Shining On and Sunshine Holiday never really got into the race given how the track played.

So that brings to an end season 2017/18. Congratulations to John Size, Champion Trainer and Zac Purton, Champion Jockey for their achievements through out the term. It will certainly be a different landscape with Joao Moreira leaving to Japan and I look forward to unlocking plenty of winners factoring-in next season’s crop of jockeys!

Thanks for following Hutchi’s Honkers through out Hong Kong season 2017/18! It was satisfying to turn a seasonal profit, that was the goal and even though it wasn’t large, for bigger players who are able to earn rebates via their respective agencies, it’s been significant.

Cheers
