Just a field of seven will compete in the first race at Happy Valley and no doubt it will prove to be a tactical race, where a jockey making a mid-race move wouldn’t surprise me. Consequently, with a question around how the race will be run, I am not overly keen on playing. Both CLEMENT LEGEND and SMART BABY are each bidding for their fourth win on end and they are thriving this season. Clement Legend clearly had the upper hand when they clashed earlier this season (Race 127) over the course and distance with that win rating highly. He seems an entirely different galloper this season and something has changed – time has served him well, so maybe it’s a case of being more developed, stronger and mature. HAPPY ROCKY is something of a course and distance specialist. His last couple of runs in defeat give him real claims to notch his third win over the track and trip. He needs a steady tempo, but comes in well at the weights compared to when he last met Smart Baby – there’s some 6.5kgs difference in Happy Rocky’s favour.
