RACE 5

9 HAPPY WARRIOR (rp – $2.20)

WIN (9 units)

HAPPY WARRIOR should have won his last start and is racing in the right form to be very hard to beat here today. Silvestre de Sousa taking the ride is a big positive and the expected race speed and map should allow him to be given every chance.

Result: 2nd (-9 units)

NEXT BEST OUTLAYS

RACE 3

1 SPLIT OF A SECOND (rp – $3.50)

WIN (4.5 units)

5 JIMSON THE DRAGON (rp – $5.50)

WIN (2 units)

Two horses present as sound outlays for the third race SPLIT OF A SECOND and JIMSON THE DRAGON. The former I think is capable of winning again and I expect that he can take a position closer to the lead than last start when the draw dictated tactics somewhat. Jimson The Dragon is an improving type and showed enough on debut to suggest that he can be competitive here with natural improvement.

Result: 3rd (-4.5 units) + 10th (-2 units) -> (-6.5 units)

RACE 8

4 SUPER HOPPY (rp – $8.00)

WIN (1.5 units)

7 STORM SIGNAL (rp – $8.00)

WIN (1.5 units)

9 FANTASTIC FEELING (rp – $12.00)

WIN (1 unit)

Country Star will be a well-supported favourite, however I can make a decent case to back three gallopers at solid ‘overs’ prices to make a strong race of it. SUPER HOPPY has been freshened and I like his prep-work leading into this. STORM SIGNAL hasn’t won as much as he possibly should have, but he’s in the right form to should get the right run to go very close. FANTASTIC FEELING can take the rise in class after an excellent win over Blitzing.

Result: 2nd (-1.5 units) + 4th (-1.5 units) + 8th (-1 unit) -> (-4 units)

best each way

RACE 7

6 HAR HAR HEART (rp – $4.50)

WIN (2.5 units) & PLACE (5 units)

HAR HAR HEART was asked to sustain a long run last start and whilst it was probably the right tactics the horse peaked late. He should be better suited to the way the race shapes up here tonight, slotting in behind midfield following a genuine tempo, and that will allow Moreira to bring into the finish at an opportune time.

Result: 2nd @ $2.50p best corporate (-2.5 units)(+7.5 units) -> (+5 units)

-14.5 UNITS  (41.5% LOSS)

The heavy rain during the Sha Tin program really influenced the track, it was a huge advantage to be racing close to the rail and on the speed.

Have Fun Together ran an enormous race all things considered. He missed the kick by a couple of lengths before getting held up at the top of the straight, and made huge ground late and wide on the track.

Superich was brilliant and he looks a galloper with a lot of promise. He maintained a wide run and was powerful through the line. Noble Steed also did a good job to finish second, he’s got points in hand for the new season.

Shining On and Sunshine Holiday never really got into the race given how the track played.

So that brings to an end season 2017/18. Congratulations to John Size, Champion Trainer and Zac Purton, Champion Jockey for their achievements through out the term. It will certainly be a different landscape with Joao Moreira leaving to Japan and I look forward to unlocking plenty of winners factoring-in next season’s crop of jockeys!

Thanks for following Hutchi’s Honkers through out Hong Kong season 2017/18! It was satisfying to turn a seasonal profit, that was the goal and even though it wasn’t large, for bigger players who are able to earn rebates via their respective agencies, it’s been significant.

Cheers
