R10 LUNG KONG HANDICAP

summary

CHARITY GO presents as one of the main bets of the day. He was enormous when he made his Hong Kong debut after working hard on pace and I though he was even better sprinting off a slow tempo on HKIR day. Behind TIGRE DU TERRE and other key rivals today he delivered the best closing sectionals in what was a dawdle early and sprint home. We have seen Dark Dream come out of the same race, follow a slightly truer tempo and blitz his rivals. That event on December 9 (race 241) overall was the worst rated race on the card, but with eight of the 14 runners here competing then, it is clearly the key race and quite important as far as a HK Derby picture is concerned. It’s massively “trappy” to assess though because of the nature of the race shape. I expect FURORE to improve noticeably second-up and especially with a more conservative ride. Barrier 13 though makes things tricky. The same might apply to Tigre Du Terre who nearly caused a massive upset behind Insayshable and his finishing burst obviously highlighted some of his talent. Outside of Charity Go, the best value looks to be ENRICHMENT and he should be taken in a quinella with the favourite. He is effectively first-up but showed more than enough ability on his only Hong Kong start (race-best final-200m of 11.41) behind Victory Boys. That race and individual performance rated well and he maps to get a cheap run.

speed

There’s not much speed on paper here and intent will be a major factor amongst jockeys. HELENE LEADINGSTAR can lead with CHARITY GO able to take close order from barrier 3. EASY GO EASY WIN can get one of the runs of the race with FURORE drawn wide and CLASSIC BEAUTY in a position to sit close to the front.
