best outlays

RACE 10

5 SUPERICH (rp – $2.00)

WIN (9.5 units)

5 with 9

QUINELLA (2 units)

5 with 3

QUINELLA (1 unit)

3 with 9

QUINELLA (0.5 unit)

SUPERICH is a highly promising galloper that should really be unbeaten this preparation. On what he has shown so far he should well and truly have the measure of this field with even luck. He’s drawn okay for Purton to have him settle where the horse is comfortable before unleashing a Group-quality sprint in the straight. MR SO AND SO is his biggest danger from REGENCY BO BO who is a genuine on pace galloper.

Result: 2nd (-9.5 units) + 1st Quinella @ $3.35 (+4.7 units)(-1 unit)(-0.5 unit) -> (-6.3 units)

RACE 9

4 GO PUBLIC (rp – $3.00)

WIN (4.5 units)

11 COMPLACENCY (rp – $7.00)

WIN (1.5 units)

QUINELLA (1 unit)

4 with 11

QUINELLA (0.5 unit)

GO PUBLIC has an outstanding record on the dirt and is a horse that has more to give. His racing pattern leaves him prone to bad luck, however his ability to sprint off good speed is an asset that can get him out of trouble. COMPLACENCY is running well and can convert that form to the AWT.

Result: 4th (-4.5 units) + 7th DH (-1.5 units) (-1 unit)(-0.5 unit) -> (-7.5 units)

RACE 7

6 DANCING FIGHTER (rp – $2.50)

WIN (5 units)

7 DOR DOR (rp – $10.00)

WIN (1 unit)

The seventh event is one with a few more unknowns than I’m normally comfortable with, however I’ve liked what I’ve seen from DANCING FIGHTER in trials and work to say that he is better than the opposition he meets on debut. Race day pressure is obviously greater than at the trials but he’s handled everything well enough to suggest he’ll be ready to win. DOR DOR has been fair in general, but his latest trial was improved and hinted at the ability he showed in a NZ hit out.

Result: 1st @ $2.80 best corporate (+9 units) + 6th (-1 unit) -> (+8 units)

each way

RACE 6

7 I DO (rp – $6.00)

WIN (1.5 units) & PLACE (3 units)

I DO debuted on the all-weather and hit the line pretty well. Moving to the turf and stepping up in distance are two positives, with the cherry on the top being the fact that Zac Purton takes the saddle. I Do maps okay and whilst he’s not a ‘maximum confidence’ outlay he is certainly worth a small play going off his early market price.

Result: 3rd @ $3.20 best corporate (-1.5 units)(+6.6 units) -> (+5.1 units)

Overall result for 31 units strategy

-0.7 UNITS  (2% LOSS)

The heavy rain during the Sha Tin program really influenced the track, it was a huge advantage to be racing close to the rail and on the speed.

Have Fun Together ran an enormous race all things considered. He missed the kick by a couple of lengths before getting held up at the top of the straight, and made huge ground late and wide on the track.

Superich was brilliant and he looks a galloper with a lot of promise. He maintained a wide run and was powerful through the line. Noble Steed also did a good job to finish second, he’s got points in hand for the new season.

Shining On and Sunshine Holiday never really got into the race given how the track played.

So that brings to an end season 2017/18. Congratulations to John Size, Champion Trainer and Zac Purton, Champion Jockey for their achievements through out the term. It will certainly be a different landscape with Joao Moreira leaving to Japan and I look forward to unlocking plenty of winners factoring-in next season’s crop of jockeys!

Thanks for following Hutchi’s Honkers through out Hong Kong season 2017/18! It was satisfying to turn a seasonal profit, that was the goal and even though it wasn’t large, for bigger players who are able to earn rebates via their respective agencies, it’s been significant.

Cheers
