summary

There’s the potential for a decent amount of pace early in this event, with CURLING LUXURY and SUPER EURO STAR a good chance to wrestle for the lead with SPARKLING SWORD and POLYMER LUCK probably taking the sit behind them. Curling Luxury showed the November win over the track and trip was no fluke when setting a fast speed in a leg of the IJC series (race 233) and battling well to finish second. Matthew Poon’s claim negates the 1kg penalty for that run and if he isn’t overly pressured then he will take some beating again. GENTRY was hampered late in that race and could bridge the beaten margin with even luck. SUPER EURO STAR won a 1,200m event on IJC night (race 228), was well rated in the lead and his final-200m was relatively weak. Normally I would have thought the mile would stretch his stamina based on that run but looking back to March 2017 on the all-weather he seemed to run out the mile quite well so even with the rise in grade, he could do well again. Polymer Luck is likely to get a nice run on the back of the speed and his recent trial was encouraging. Ultimately, he has won 1/29 but considering he is having his second start for Jimmy Ting, he has to be kept safe as his stable; pretty much to the runner has shown improvement. HAPPY WARRIOR weakened last time (three-wide no cover) but his run prior behind Charizard was full of merit. The mile looks a good move and he must have impressed Douglas Whyte for him to get down to ride him at 52kg. CHAPARRAL STAR maps well and has been holding his form well enough.

speed

I expect there to be early competition for positions before the pace settles down to be GOOD. CURLING LUXURY can lead from SUPER EURO STAR with SPARKLING SWORD and POLYMER LUCK taking sits off them. CHAPARRAL STAR can potentially find a good spot just in front of midfield.
