R7 THE LONGINES HONG KONG MILE (G1)

-

Sha Tin (M27) - Sunday, 9 December 2018

summary

John Moore’s BEAUTY GENERATION will most probably be the shortest-priced favourite on the card and on the face of his recent performances, rightly so. The Horse of The Year in Hong Kong last season has shown why he was voted as such by winning all three starts this preparation in commanding style. He has a terrific race pattern, as he can lead or take a sit on-pace and the manner in which he broke the track record last start suggested he is in career-best form. It is pretty simple, if he holds that sort of form – and the stable feel he has improved – then he should be winning this event. It is quite clear that nothing locally has his measure, so looking to the Internationals; it would appear that the Japanese galloper PERSIAN KNIGHT makes some appeal. He was very good when runner-up in the Group 1 Mile Championship on his final outing before arriving in Hong Kong and he possesses a terrific turn of foot. He goes in to this race third-up so he should be primed for a forward showing. If taking a trifecta, then the likes of SINGAPORE SLING and SOUTHERN LEGEND can be included as they have home ground advantage, while MOZU ASCOT who won the Yasuda Kinen earlier this year is another that might figure in the finish. I’m not sure about the Mile being much of a major outlay race, but if Beauty Generation comes up a reasonable fixed price then he might be worth taking. Monitor this, I’ve marked him very short, but I couldn’t suggest you get involved at anything less than $1.50.

speed

The pace should be at least GOOD here. BEAUTY GENERATION is well-drawn in barrier 12 as Purton will have plenty of time to make decisions as to how to work him forward and into the race. FIFTY FIFTY can position close by with VIVLOS and BEAT THE BANK.
