summary

This is an interesting race with some Hong Kong Derby prospects competing. Of particular interest are the Australian imports DARK DREAM and HELENE LEADINGSTAR (formerly Leicester). I think the mile is short enough for each of them but they did look promising enough in Australia and each has gone well in a turf trial. I marginally preferred the trial of Dark Dream. We lost our dollars on GOOD STANDING last time but perhaps it was the track conditions so I am happy to give him another chance – the run was too much below his previous best rating to be a reflection of his ability. I like the booking of Hugh Bowman and this galloper should be near peak fitness now. CHARITY GO has to be a solid chance as well, given the positive impression he made on his debut when third to Harmony Victory. He will strip fitter and if he isn’t pressured too much on the pace, then he will take some catching. MONGOLIAN KING sustained a solid final-600m (34.69) last start when finishing fourth and that race has worked out quite well (Raging Storm has won since). He will also enjoy the move up in trip. All-in-all, this is a tricky race with a couple of quality imports but who are also likely to be well off their best given the Derby is four months away. A betting strategy with both Good Standing and Charity Go might be the best option, but overall there isn’t a lot of depth to this event.

There doesn’t appear to be great deals of pace in this event with CHARITY GO the likely leader from STIMULATION. HELENE LEADINGSTAR is drawn to secure an economical run during the race and I expect GOOD STANDING can work across into a “sweet” position from an awkward gate.
