R10 HIGHLAND REEL HANDICAP

Sha Tin (M27) - Sunday, 9 December 2018

17:50 HK TIME

summary

The final race looks a good clash between NOBLE STEED and NICCONI EXPRESS, who ran the quinella three weeks ago over this course and distance. The weight swing (3.5kg) is in favour of Nicconi Express (who himself has drawn awkwardly in barrier 13). However, he was close enough to a solid tempo last time, is highly likely to strip fitter here and has had a trial recently which was okay. Noble Steed will be hard to beat again and he does look as though he has more upside, so with an economical run he will be the bet again. Ryan Moore won’t have to do much work during the race and he should get a sweet trip. SMART BOY comes through the same form lines and can hit the frame, but he is a little more exposed than the other two. GAME PLAYER EMPEROR has been racing well without winning but he should appreciate the step up to 1,400m and must be kept safe. As a betting strategy, I’ll be backing Noble Steed to win again as well as taking him in a quinella with Nicconi Express, Game Player Emperor and Smart Boy.

CIRCUIT HASSLER is drawn to be a major pace influence here and could lead from GRADE ONE and MR WEALTH. GRADE ONE also ability to “muster” early. TASHIDELEK could sit fourth with Moreira biding his time with NICCONI EXPRESS before unleashing a cracking sprint gown centre-track.
