Last start winner SUPREME WITNESS looks the likely leader in this one and although he is up in grade, he can set a reasonable tempo and the bulk of his form this season has been sound. However, ultimately he is yet to place in 13 attempts in this grade although some of his runs have been good in defeat, it is a strong expectation that he might be vulnerable once again. There are two very progressive runners in this line up in the shape of CHARIZARD and PICKEN. The former posted a very stylish win last month over 1,200m when storming home off a slow tempo in the fastest 400m of the meeting (21.81) and this galloper clearly has a lot of potential. Charizard should appreciate the step up to 1,400m but there isn’t a lot of him so the increase in weight could be off some concern. Picken hasn’t been seen since late October when he ran on well over 1,200m at Happy Valley. Nothing really worked out for him then but he did run on well in the latter stages, posting the third-best 400m (22.46) at the meeting. The switch to Sha Tin, a good barrier and having Joao Moreira on board are all major positives. UNIVERSAL GO GO might appreciate the drop back to 1,400m as the Happy Valley mile has just tested his stamina limitations, while CITY LEGEND continues to run well without winning. Charizard is the best chance here, but I won’t recommend too big an outlay. Watch the price of Supreme Witness as he could be worth a small outlay too.
