30 units Strategy

best outlay

RACE 4

5 COUNTRY STAR (rp – $2.40)

WIN (8 units)

5 with 7 & 9

QUINELLA (0.5 units each, 1 unit total)

I’ve made COUNTRY STAR the bet of the night once more. He was very unlucky last start, will be improved, has upside and will be suited to 1200m. He maps well and should get it done tonight. There’s some value in Quinellas with BINGO and LOVE CHUNGHWA whose early prices look a touch big.

Result: 1st @ $2.40 best corporate (+11.2 units) + 4th & 2nd Quinella @ $24.80 (+11.4 units) -> (+22.6 units)

Next best outlays

RACE 2

1 CHIU CHOW KID (rp – $2.80)

WIN (6 units)

1 with 8 & 10

QUINELLA (0.5 units each, 1 unit total)

CHIU CHOW KID looks like he’ll be an excellent price going off early markets and is one of the better wins better on the card. He maps to get a soft trip midfield and will just need a touch of luck back around the Valley. CELEBRATION and THE JOY OF GIVING provide good Quinella options with Chiu Chow Kid.

Result: 2nd (-6 units)(-1 unit) -> (-7 units)

RACE 8

5 ALCARI (RP – $4.00)

WIN (4 units)

1 BLOCKER DEE (RP – $4.50)

WIN (3.5 units)

1 with 4

QUINELLA (0.5 unit)

Both ALCARI and BLOCKER DEE map very well to get the right runs to be leading contenders to win this race. Their prices are very appealing given I rate them highly against their opposition for this race.

Results: 4th (-4 units) + 9th (-3.5 units) + (-0.5 units) -> (-8 units)

best each way

RACE 6

5 BUNDLE OF ENERGY (rp – $4.50)

WIN (2 units) PLACE (4 units)

I’ve been waiting for BUNDLE OF ENERGY to get over a distance like tonight’s 1650m sixth event at Happy Valley. His overall form has been okay, but on speck I believe he can improve and enough to break maiden status here.

Result: 4th (-2 units)(-4 units) -> (-6 units)

Overall result for 30 unit strategy

+1.6 UNITS  (5% PROFIT)

John Size and Zac Purton notched up a notable double together and a result of that was the best of the night Country Star winning, and it was a very impressive run too! The margin was three and a quarter lengths and off that I’ll be surprised if the handicapper keeps him in Class 4, nevertheless he has an exciting future. The quinella added a strong return with Love Chunghwa getting his head in front for second in a somewhat more competitive go for the minor placings.

Country Star was one of two horses from my Sweet in Defeat files that won on the night, the other was Red Warrior, with a third SID horse Chiu Chow Kid running second in race 2. It will be a good source of future winners, of that I’m sure, so make sure visit the “News” section of Hutchi’s Honkers for my regular updates (SID will be released on Thursday for a review of the weekend, and Monday for a review of midweek racing).

Bundle Of Energy was given a “one-one” trip off a painfully slow early tempo, which mean it was a straight sprint home. My best each way flattened out fairly, but better positioned horses in front of him and on the rail had the advantage and he ran an annoying fourth.

In the last Alcari sat behind an even tempo but wasn’t able to quicken enough to roll Sparkling Dragon. Matthew Poon rated the winner well. Blocker Dee was disappointing and although he worked harder than most to find an early position, I expected more.

A small profit was returned for the Best Selections and Strategies which leads us into meeting 7 which will be at Sha Tin! It’s on Monday 1 October (National Day in Hong Kong) and it’ll see many stars of Hong Kong racing resuming with their targets being the December HKIR races. Ivictory, Hot King Prawn, Beauty Generation and Ping Hai Star are a selection of the quality that will be showcased!

Be sure check to out my latest Sweet in Defeat analysis before then, and to also join me for Monday!

Cheers
