summary

Champion Jockey Zac Purton has a number of good rides on the first card of the season, and he can win this event with SPORTS MASTER, who is a maiden from nine starts. He finished fourth in a key race (race 797, season ‘17/’18) that also involved rivals LE PANACHE, BEST EFFORT, SUNNY ORIENT, THE SHOW, WONDERFUL CHASER and KWAICHUNG BROTHERS. Then he closed with the best final-400m and 200m of the race (22.94/11.46), it was an excellent effort considering the tempo suited those who raced on-pace. Best Effort has had a stable change to Caspar Fownes and suffice to say as a result his work has been solid. He can improve, while Le Panache ended last campaign in good form and he can go well once more. Sunny Orient and Wonderful Chaser have claims to figure as well in a typical Class 5 event.

THE SHOW can lead this race and the “race pressure” is likely to come from TRIUMPHANT LIGHT and BEST EFFORT. That said, the pressure doesn’t look strong and the overall speed of the race isn’t likely to be faster than GOOD. PROUD SKY maps well behind the leaders.
