R1 HARCOURT HANDICAP

Sha Tin (M1) - Sunday, 2 September 2018

17:00 HK TIME

summary

There are better races on the card than the opening event of the season, but the high draw might play in to the hands of SUPER EIGHTEEN who has had two trials to help prepare for this event. He is an on-pace runner who should land in the right spot (close to the outside rail) cheaply and receives 10-pounds of weight relief again. Last season VICTORY POWER posted some of the better figures of runners in this race and whilst his lead-up trial was sound work also, he might not be on the ‘best ground’ from a low draw. The debutant HAPPY TOUR has shown some ability in his work and trials and this doesn’t look an overly hard assignment for him, so any underlying market support would be encouraging. The stable change (to freshman trainer Jimmy Ting) and blinkers going on TRIUMPHANT JEWEL are positives and he performed nicely in a turf trial. Not a race to getting carried away betting into though, it’s a long season ahead!

speed

For a race down the Sha Tin straight, there doesn’t appear to be an abundance of speed and pressure here. Debutant HAPPY TOUR might be one of the leaders from SUPER EIGHTEEN and LIGHTNING STEED. Early favourite VICTORY POWER is drawn the wrong side, but given the small field it might not be as disadvantageous as “normal”.
