Happy Valley (M87) - Wednesday, 11 July 2018

2:15 HK TIME

summary

JUMBO LUCK has posted the best figures recently at Sha Tin, but his performances at Happy Valley have been poor and he has missed half a month of work leading in to this event – this is a concern. For these reasons, I’ll pass on him tonight. MAGIC LEGEND and GUNNISON arguably have the best form of the rest leading in to this contest. The former will find this an easier test than recent runs behind California Whip and his only run at Happy Valley was sound second to that horse. He maps well too, as does Gunnison who posted a very good figure when winning on a fast speed here two starts back. Gunnison is a pint-sized galloper so competing with a relatively lightweight I believe is a small positive. SOLOMON’S BAY ran well behind boom horse Hot King Prawn at his last start and he is the fresh legs on the scene, plus has Joao Moreira on board. Frankie Lor has shown that his horses improve race to race in a preparation, but whilst the same is likely with this horse, I can’t mark him as short as the market. SEVEN HEAVENS was good when second in the same race (730) behind the Prawn and last start he had genuine excuses for his 10th. Assessing how things shape up here a small each way on Gunnison is my approach.
